The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) provides expertise and resources to assist in the promotion and coordination of New York’s evidence-based Traffic Safety Enforcement Program (TSEP). The goal of TSEP is to maximize the effectiveness of the strategies implemented by police agencies at the state, county, and local levels.
Highway Safety Program Representatives and Law Enforcement Liaisons (LELs) guide the traffic enforcement community with the identification of enforcement priorities through optimal resource allocation. Timely data collection, geographic and demographic crash analysis, the latest traffic enforcement training and tactics, the funding of high visibility enforcement and sustained traffic safety messaging are all used to reduce dangerous behaviors. Throughout the year, the LELs are also called upon to solicit and support law enforcement participation in the Buckle Up New York - Click It or Ticket mobilizations, STOP-DWI Enforcement Crackdowns, training programs, and many other traffic safety initiatives.
The Police Traffic Services (PTS) Grant Program is the primary funding vehicle to facilitate these and other traffic enforcement initiatives by New York’s police agencies.
